Not phased by the #OsccarsSoWhite drama, the NAACP had their first red carpet event of the year honoring a few of the flyest actors at the Image Award Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Present and accounted for were Teyonah Parris, Yara Shahidi, Laverne Cox, Nature Naughton and With This Ring director Nzingha Stewart.
One trend that we spotted on the red carpet was feminine pantsuits from Parris and Shahidi, who took different approaches to the same look.
Paris, who’s being honored for her role in Spike Lee’s ChiRaq, went with a white tuxedo style jumper from John Paul Ataker, styled with jewels from D’Orazio & Associates and Stuart Weitzman heels. While Blackish star Shadidi wore a full on Brooks Brothers suit to co-host the event.
Popping in pink was the ever-stylish Laverne Cox who slipped her svelte figure into a Roland Mouret midi dress with Christian Louboutin “Pigalle” pumps.
Since awards season is just beginning, it’s too early to have any solid predictions. But so far we’ve noticed that celebrities are tapping lesser known designers and finding looks that convey their unquie personalities. Like Naughton, who sported her grandmother’s vintage dress for the luncheon.
The divide of who will be watching which award show is real. But you can be sure that we’re keeping a special radar on #BlackGirlMagic moments on and off the red carpet all award season long.
