Ne-Yo‘s first move into the tech world is a big one!
The 37-year-old singer/songwriter has put his reported $16 million net worth to good use by investing $2.3 million in Holberton School, a Silicon Valley coding facility that doesn’t charge tuition. Yup, it’s completely free!
So how does it work? According to TechCrunch, graduates have to contribute about 17% of their salaries or internship pay to the school for three years after graduation. In return, the school is able to keep its costs low by not hiring teachers or giving lectures. Much of the curriculum is based on specific projects and students helping teach each other.
Ne-Yo will also be on the school’s Board of Trustees, a move that sets him apart from others in the music industry. With Beyonce‘s Formation Scholars program and LeBron James urging kids to get involved in things other than sports, celebrities promoting education will always be a win for us!
