About the Show

A spin-off from the hit series, Maude, Good Times centers on the trials and tribulations of the Evans family, poor but proud residents of Chicago’s Cabrini Green housing project.

Hard-working family patriarch James (John Amos) and his wife Florida (Esther Rolle) struggle to provide as best they can for their three children, J.J. (Jimmie Walker), Michael (Ralph Carter), and Thelma (BernNadette Stanis). Joining the Evans clan is their wisecracking neighbor, Willona (Ja’Net DuBois).

With its focus on ghetto life, Good Times used its own brand of socially-relevant comedy to provide a look into inner-city America during the turbulent 70s, and the issues facing the families who struggled to rise above discrimination and poverty.
