Here is an event that we didn’t mention on our list of BLACK things to do during Inauguration weekend: The Busboys and Poet’s Peace Ball: Voices of Hope and Resistance.

Held at the National Museum of African American Museum of History & Culture in Washington, D.C., the event served as an “alternate” inauguration ceremony where artists and speakers came together to remember the eight years of President Barack Obama.

Leading the performers of the night were Solange and Esperanza Spalding:

What an honor to have performed at the Smithsonian African American Museum for the Busboys and Poets’ Peace Ball. My heart is still full as moons. And thank you to the inimitable teacher…the astounding Angela Davis for introducing me last night. Your words will stay with me forever.
