Over the weekend actor Nelsan Ellis, most known for his role as Lafayette Reynolds on True Blood, died from complications of heart failure. He was 39.

From 2008 to 2014 Ellis stole the scene on the hit HBO show and quickly became a fan favorite as a diner cook and dealer of addictive vampire blood in rural Louisiana.

Celebrities like Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and more shared their fond memories of the remarkably talented father and friend.

Ellis is survived by his grandmother, his father, and his son, Breon, as well as seven siblings.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
