According to HBCU Digest, Edison Jackson, the President of Bethune-Cookman University, will resign before his contract is set to end.

The Daytona Beach, Florida HBCU, famously known for inviting Donald Trump’s Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos to its Spring commencement services in May, received tons of backlash from the students and alumni. Even Mary McCleod Bethune‘s granddaughter expressed her disappointment in the university.

Reportedly the private school also faced tons of financial disparities under Jackson’s reign. But did the apparent threats to the students who booed DeVos’ during her speech have anything to do with his sudden decision to step down?

Digest also reports that the school suffered from several headlines “which highlighted 13 Bethune-Cookman students shot over a twelve-month period. But officials said Dr. Jackson improved the university’s profile through his community presence and increased student admission standards.”
