Too Harsh? Judge Hands Down Lengthy Sentence To Meek Mill, JAY-Z Steps In

It’s official, Meek Mill is going back to prison. On Monday, Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkly sentenced the 30-year-old rapper to a minimum of two years after violating probation. JAY-Z stepped in last night and called this sentence “unjust and heavy-handed” and confirmed his support of Meek Mill, currently managed by Roc Nation.

In his official statement via Facebook, included below, JAY-Z also emphasized that this sentence went against the recommendation of both the Assistant District Attorney and his probation officer.

According to Philly.com, the judge was fed up with Mill’s missteps this year and the previous years.

“I gave you break after break, and you basically just thumbed your nose at this court,” Judge Brinkley told Mill. Mill will serve his sentence in state prison and he’ll be eligible for parole after two years.

Mill, on parole from a gun and drug case in 2008, violated his current terms with two arrests this year. Mill was arrested in March after a fight broke out in the St. Louis airport between him and an airport worker. Those charges were dropped and that worker was fired. In October, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving after a video surfaced of him popping wheelies on a dirt bike in New York City

When asked whether Mill will be appealing, Brian McMonagle, his defense attorney, clapped back, “You’re goddamned right I am.”
