Beyoncé  made a surprise appearance at the Sports Illustrated Awards on Tuesday night to honor Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali  Legacy award.

And for the critics that still don’t understand why the former San Francsisco 49ers QB protested, Mrs. Carter made you aware, “It’s been said that racism is so American that when we protest racism we’re protesting America. But let’s be very clear — Colin has always been very respectful of the individuals who selflessly serve and protect our country and our communities and our families.”

Kaepernick further expressed his gratitude on Instagram and even giving attention to Ali’s widow, Lonnie Williams, who was also in attendance.
