Diva Database: Janet Jackson

2012 amfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS – Dinner

Janet Jackson sealed her fate as a diva when she told boys to call her “Miss Jackson,” especially if they were nasty, on her Grammy-nominated album “Control” in 1985. But we definitely saw flashes of diva when she played a tiny Mae West alongside her brothers on their variety show in the 70s.  All grown up, Janet set herself apart as independent on “Control” and then strong, socially-conscious and a success in her own right on “Rhythm Nation,” topping her brother Michael’s record for number one singles. Finally, she just got plain sexy on “janet,” bearing her midriff and more on the album cover. Now, that’s showing a diva’s full range. Go, Miss Jackson.
