Mickhal Garrett faced the people who took his daughter away from him in court last Tuesday. Aniya Day-Garret was beaten to death, allegedly by her mother Sierra Day and Day’s boyfriend.

“You killed my f****** daughter,” the father cried in anguish. “You hurt my baby.” Watch the emotional video below.

The 4-year-old was found unresponsive inside of her home in Euclid, Ohio. The toddler who was starved, burned, and beaten, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The cause of death was a stroke caused by repeated blows to the head, according to medical examiners.

Day and her boyfriend Deonte Lewis were charged with aggravated murder and are currently being held on $1 million bonds.

Garrett had been fighting to gain custody of his daughter for years and believes Child Protective Services could’ve prevented the murder. “I did everything in my power to let them know that I was a stand-up dad and that my daughter was being harmed and abused at home and this was an emergency,” the father told Fox 8 Cleveland.

Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services conducted three investigations into allegations of neglect last year,  but concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to remove the child from the mother’s home. The system failed Garrett.

On Monday, the grieving father rallied with #BlackLivesMatter activists outside of the Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services building to protest.

“I hope and pray a difference is made today… I’m just hoping a difference is made because I don’t want this to happen to any other children on this earth,” said Garrett.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Aniya at this time.
