Over the weekend Issa Rae found herself in the hot seat when an excerpt from her book proposing that black women date Asian men, found its way on social media. In The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, Rae addressed the then-recent studies that claimed black women and Asian men were the least desirable when it came to dating apps.

Of course, Black Twitter had a TON to say, but it was black MEN who were offended by her preference.

For context, here’s an excerpt from the book (which was released three years ago).

So what’s the problem, exactly? Men have long since had a preference in what and how they like their women — from long hair to big butts and even, dare we say it, complexion. And let’s not forget, most music in our culture glorifies a woman of foreign descent as more attractive.

But when a woman speaks out loud about her choice to date outside her race, we’re all of a sudden a sellout. Yeah, okay.

Calls to boycott the 33-year-old CoverGirl‘s hit show Insecure was immediately denounced by the women of Black Twitter. Even some of the fellas saw the outrage for what it was, ridiculous.
