Lionel Richie is adding another project to his ever-growing roster at RichLion Productions (last year he confirmed his company’s involvement in bringing Curtis Mayfield‘s story to the masses) — a Sammy Davis Jr. biopic.

According to Deadline, the American Idol judge relentlessly went after Davis’ rights to his life story, “I cannot tell you how excited I am about the signing of the Sammy Davis Jr. project with Paramount. I knew and loved Sammy dearly.”

There’s no word on who will play the iconic role of the performer.
