Based on the best-selling novel by Trisha R. Thomas, the film reportedly “follows a woman named Violet (Lathan) with a seemingly perfect life — a great job, a handsome boyfriend who’s a doctor, and a meticulously maintained coiffure. But after an accident at the hair salon, each of these things starts to unravel, and Violet begins to realize that she was living the life she thought she was supposed to live, not the one that she wanted. She starts to put the pieces back together with a little help from a soulful barber and his young daughter. Violet finds the courage to cast off some of the things that she didn’t really need, starting with the perfectly straightened hair and find a life that has real meaning.” Ricky Whittle, Lyriq Bent, Ernie Hudson and Lynn Whitfield also star in the movie. Watch the trailer below.

Nappily Ever After streams on Netflix September 21.
