Journalist, sports commentator and general badass Jemele Hill is officially gone from ESPN after more than 12 years at the network. And no one is surprised. But before she steps out the door on Friday, Hill will, according to Bossip, collect a $6 million payout on her existing $2.5 million per year contract.
Coming 9/1 an amicable departure / buyout for @jemelehill from @espn Been a long time coming #JemeleHill #ESPN

Author James Miller broke the news Saturday night on Twitter, calling the departure ‘amicable’ and a long time coming. Especially after the newly appointed ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro made it clear that ESPN is NOT a ‘political organization’ and will NOT ‘cover politics.’ And the subtext of this announcement, we plan to NOT piss off conservatives and Trump supporters, so you ESPN anchors and correspondents better keep Trump’s name (and the NFL) out your mouth and out your tweets.
And if you remember, that’s exactly what got Hill in hot water. About a year ago, on Sept. 11, 2017, Hill unleashed a fury of tweets directed at President Trump. She called President Trump a “white supremacist,” a “bigot” and an “unfit…incompetent moron.” According to ESPN, she violated their social media policies and they released a statement saying her comments do not represent ESPN.
Then she went after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for his policy mandating players stand for the national anthem. She released the rallying cry to the protestors, saying “Change happens when advertisers are impacted. If you feel strongly about JJ’s statement, boycott his advertisers.” ESPN promptly booted her off the network for two weeks.
They took away her TV platform, but they couldn’t silence her. She continued to voice her thoughts on Twitter about our current political landscape and the national anthem controversy. And for this, she should be applauded and deemed a national treasure for speaking out against the BS even if it cost her, her coin.
We applaud Jemele Hill for grabbing that cash and running the hell out of there!
