For the fourth time, LL Cool J has been nominated as an inductee into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Grammy award-winning rapper’s nomination is joined by Janet Jackson and Rufus & Chaka Khan, alongside others including Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine and more.

It’s hard to imagine why LL’s legacy continues to be missed, but regardless of the snub, the last few years have been amazing for the rapper turned actor. NCIS: LA is in its ninth season and just last year he graduated from Harvard. He also became the first rapper to be honored by the Kennedy City Honors in 2017.

So how does one get nominated? According to the New York Times, “artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry figures who consider “an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique.”
