This Summer, after more than 20 years, the infamous FreakNik will return to Hotlanta featuring Uncle Luke, Da Brat, Pastor Troy, Foxy Brown, and a list of other artists representing for the 99 and 2000s.

The announcement of the block party’s comeback has been greeted with mixed reviews. Some past attendees are dusting off their daisy dukes and shell-toes as we speak while others are doubtful that this reboot will live up to the original event.

Forever a 90s staple, FreaNik is known for its wild parties filled with good music, food, and alcohol. With that combination, you know it was off the chain. Gaining a negative reputation due to excessive drinking, violence, and other X-rated activity, by the 2000s, the festival eventually dwindled and was ultimately banned from the city.

With new leadership in place event producer, After-9 Partners, is hoping to rebuild the brand. It was first announced that the rebirth would be family-friendly, which the internet found to be ridiculous:

The promoters have quickly switched gears releasing language that is much closer to the spirit of the original festival, stressing that attendees should be at least 18 years old.

If no one else is excited, Uncle Luke sure is. He has coined himself the “God Father of FreakNik” writing on Twitter “FreakNik coming to Atlanta I don’t have to say anything else.”
