Last year we reported Nichelle Nichols‘ battle with Dementia and now it seems as if things may be getting worse.
According to PEOPLE, two friends of the Star Trek actress are speaking out against the actress. “On Tuesday, Nichols’ manager Gilbert Bell provided Atlanta’s CBS46 with a disturbing video, apparently taken by him, in which the 86-year-old TV star can be heard screaming in protest as she holds what Bell claims are legal guardianship documents filed by her son, Kyle Johnson.” He was awarded conservatorship last year, giving him control of his mother’s finances and decisions related to her health.
Bell has been Nichol’s manager for 12 years, “It’s pretty devastating what is going on.” he said. Watch the video here.
Nichols, an Illinois native started her career singing for Duke Ellington before turning to acting. She first appeared on Star Trek in 1966, blazing a trail for African-American women in the sci-fi space. Watch her tell Oprah how Martin Luther King Jr. stopped her from quitting the iconic show.
