Nipsey Hussle’s family members are working together to be named co-guardians of the deceased rapper’s child Emani Asghedom. This comes after the Grammy nominee’s brutal murder on March 31st in front of his Marathon Clothing store.
According to The Blast, his mother, Angelique Smith and brother Samiel Asghedom have joined his sister’s Samantha Smith legal pursuits of getting custody over Emani. Both Smith and Asghedom filed a petition asking for guardianship instead of her biological mother Tanisha Foster.
Nipsey’s sister filed the first petition back in April and has taken Emani in since the death of the Grammy-nominated rapper.
Hussle’s brother also known as Blacc Sam and his mom attended a recent hearing in the case and stated in legal documents that:
“They have participated in her care and upbringing since her birth. Since the unfortunate murder of Emani’s father in March 2019, Samiel and Angelique have assisted in providing care for Emani.”
On the other hand, Foster has attended multiple hearings to remain in her daughter’s life.
Her lawyer Larry Lewellyn told The Daily News that:
“It’s pretty amicable, but obviously this is a matter of high emotion given the totality of the circumstances. Both sides are being careful to maintain and pursue peace.”
This news isn’t shocking considering the fact that the family is very close and made many appearances on behalf of the rapper since his death. They were most recently at the BET Awards accepting an award for the “Dedication” rapper. They also reunited at his funeral which featured appearances from Stevie Wonder, YG, Snoop Dogg, and more.
A new hearing on the guardianship matter is set for July 15.
