Today (August 28) marks the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington that was keynoted by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To commemorate and celebrate this historical event, the NAACP will host the 2020 Virtual March on Washington. Today civil rights leaders and the families of Black men and women who died at the hands of law enforcement will gather to attend an in-person march. Included are the families of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

This two-day event began Thursday, August 27 with a dynamic program hosted by April Ryan and filled with activists, politicians, actors, and musicians. This list of participants included Rev. Al Sharpton, Sen. Cory Booker, actor and activist Mahershala Ali, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Pastor Jamal Bryant, and President and CEO of the NAACP, Derrick Johnson.
According to the NAACP, Thursday and Friday’s events “will set forth a bold new Black agenda — advocating for comprehensive police accountability reform, economic empowerment, and equitable access to health care, education, and the voting booths.”
