The 1975 movie "Cooley High" is based on the real life of creator/writer Eric Monte’s high school experience at Cooley Vocational High School in Chicago.  Considered a classic black cinema film, the popularity of "Cooley High" gave birth to the 70’s television show "What’s Happening!!" which still lives in syndication today.
